About Us

Hi there!  We are the Attwater Family -  Chris, Shae, Ethan, Araina, and Amayah - and we are from Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada.

Chris was a journeyman mechanic before teaching for 16 years and attaining a Master of Educational Administration Degree in 2016.  Prior to joining Mercy Ships in 2021, he spent almost 2 years as a Director with Saskatchewan Government Insurance. From July 2021 to December 2023 Chris served as the principal of the Academy on the Africa Mercy Ship.  In January the Africa Mercy sailed to South Africa for some repairs and our family moved onto the Global Mercy Ship.  Chris is now serving in the transportation department since there was already a principal on this ship.

Shae has wanted to teach since she was a little girl and has had the privilege of teaching for over 25 years now.  Her passion for helping students who are struggling inspired her to complete a Master of Education in Educational Psychology in 2018. At an early age, she also felt called travel to Africa to help. She is thrilled to have the opportunity to teach part-time and work in the Chaplaincy department.

Ethan is 18 years old and completed three years of n his first year of university in Business Administration at the University of Regina.  He has been accepted in the Law.....at the Unversity of Saskatchewan.  We will miss him SO MUCH each day, but thanks to Facetime we can stay in touch from across the ocean.  Ethan is the BEST big brother and son!  We are so incredibly proud of him! He enjoys playing cards with his family, sports, and hanging with his friends.

Araina is 11 years old and in Grade 5.  She loves playing, outside and cooking.  Araina would like to follow in her parents’ footsteps and be a teacher when she grows up!  She would also like to open up her own bakery.  Her favourite thing about living on the Mercy Ships is.

Amayah is 8 years old and in Grade 2.  She loves playing outside, drawing (ArtHub for Kids is her favourite website!), and hockey.  Amayah also wants to be a teacher when she grows up!  Her favourite thing about living on the Mercy Ships.

We are very excited and priviledged to continue to take part in the amazing work that Mercy Ships is doing to bring hope and healing to the people of Africa!
